Grand Knight’s Message
2020 has dawned and we begin not only a new calendar year, but also a new church year as the Christmas Season has ended the celebration of when love came down and the Glory of Heaven dwelt among us has now become brief period of Ordinary time before Lent.
We now look forward to what 2020 but also remember and renew our past endeavors. In keeping with that theme, all brothers are encouraged to review the bulletin each week as Parish Social Ministry lists the items needed in order to maintain their food inventory. We will push to continue our food drive at each of our meetings during the coming year and we ask all brothers to bring items to our meetings so that we may continue our efforts in support of Parish Social Ministry.
2019 was indeed a busy time for our council, a year of transition and a year change. Now we look to a bright 2020 and we have a number of important events upcoming.
On March 1, 2020 we will be running a party at which the Knight of the Year presentation will be awarded. For those interested, this event will commence with a celebration of the Eucharist at noon with the cocktail party following shortly thereafter at 2pm. Tickets are $35 and can be obtained from Brother Anthony Barcia.
On March 21, 2020, we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with our annual party in the school. Tickets will be on sale shortly and I would encourage all brothers to assist in this wonderful event. Please see Charlie and/or Brian Peknic
On April 18, 2020, we will hold a drawing for the Fabulous 100 Club at the council hall with dinner commencing that evening. Again, our thanks to PGK Dan Gerrity for his efforts in running this very successful event. Please contact Dan to purchase your raffle ticket.
Lastly, while the date has not yet been confirmed, on April 30, 2020 we are hoping to offer a Memorial Mass for Frank Stallone, PGK, PFN, FDD. Details to follow. Frank in many ways was the heart and soul of our council. He was a mentor to many, a friend to all and a true blessing to our council. We miss him terribly and will always remember him. In his honor, we have named the Past Grand Knight plaque for him.
Although Christmas has passed, we continue to remember that the Lord has come to us and the Word of God resides with us. May this be a time of grace, leading us to serve others.
As we continue our journey as knights through 2020, I would encourage each of you to continue to support our council, our parish and our community. I pray for God’s blessing on each of you and on your families and hope that we can enjoy another fruitful, prayerful and successful year. God bless.
